Bluejeans

If you happened to be volunteering today at Harold Martin or anywhere in our district, you saw a sea of “blue” as staff members all wore blue jeans in honor of the Merrimack County Child Advocacy Center’s Paint the County Blue event. In fact, organizations and businesses throughout our county were encouraged to do the same, and with it, donate at least one dollar to support the Center and help prevent child abuse.

The US statistics are staggering. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused by their 18th birthday. A child is abused every six minutes which results in 240 children a day.  In New Hampshire, our Advocacy Centers served over 2000 child victims in 2012.

Needless to say, we have work to do. Fortunately, there are people working hard to stem the tide of child abuse. There is a Child Advocacy Center in each county of our state to provide support for families and hold offenders accountable. To report  suspected child abuse in New Hampshire, please call 1-800-894-5533.

To learn more, you can head to the Merrimack County Child Advocacy Center’s website at: http://cac-nh.org/merrimack/. It’s one of those silent tragedies that needs greater awareness.
